Lake Views for January 2016

There are five of the standard views of the lake this month. Three were taken on one set of consecutive days and at rather different times, so the impression you get of the weather could be a little misleading. The remaining two were taken on another set of consecutive days. All show the dinghy upside down on the decking. It had been hauled ashore at some point since Christmas Eve, as the Lake View for that day shows it still tied up by the dropped step.
The first was taken on Friday 15 January 11:58 and you get the distinct impression of a cold wind from the north. You might think it was snow that has been blown against the southern bank of the lake, but as the Report for that Day reveals what fell was a soft hail, rather than snow. that solidified forming an ice shelf on which further hail landed. Although it can be seen that the new decking opposite is distinctly wet rather than icy.
By comparison the image taken the following day at 13:55 could be taken as typical of early spring.
And at 08:32 on Sunday 17 January we're back to winter again! Indeed, a tougher winter than two days earlier as this time large parts of the lake were frozen.
The next Lake View was taken on 24 January at 15:50, i.e. sunset, rather than my usual time of day so rather misses the point of these reports, which mainly are intended to record the changing seasons, showing such things as when the daffodils flower, when the various trees come into leaf or lose their green colour.
By the 25 January it looks like spring again, and with some justification. Looking at the first image taken in February Last Year it would seem that leaf growth was about a week in advance this year.
