New Year Sun and Reflections

If you look back at my Summer Views report on 11 June 2022 you'll see how I was claiming that the loft area over the veranda of The Manna was designed to keep the worst of the summer sun's rays off you. That wasn't quite it. The overhang of the loft was intended to keep the sun's rays from coming through the windows and overheating the cabin itself. Similarly, in winter, it was expected to allow in the sun and warm the cabin.
It was 12:34 on New Year's Day when this picture was taken and it demonstrates that I got the calculations just right. Indeed, I had forgotten about the possibility of the reflections off the lake's surface. What you see here is the direct sun light reaching a foot or so up the back of the cabin, while at the top of the back wall and ceiling, you see the reflection of the sun of the lake. In bright sun the cabin really does heat up very well, even in the depths of winter.
