Geese and Swans
Posted: 21 April 2014
I had a slight burst of excitement this morning, when I saw our two geese together apparently eyeing up a new nest site.

I was completing a walk around the grounds having already taken a couple of pictures of a resting swan on the lawns behind the cottages.

The bird appeared to be awake, but was not in the slightest concerned by my approach and it let me stand over it to take a second picture.

However, it was the later encounter of the geese that had me most excited. Apart from on the the lawns behind the cottages, this was the first time I had seen them so close together in an area that seemed a potential nest site. It's on the western tip of the large island and can be easily seen from the end of the peninsula to which those in the cottages have access.
While it certainly seems a viable site, I am concerned that it is a little late in the year to be having another go at raising a family. There would be so little time to have any youngster grow enough to be able to take on the long migration flight in the August.
We shall just have to wait and see!
