Since the idea of expanding the use the cabin so it could cope with overnight accommodation it had been the plan to get a wood burning stove installed. While Silver Birch and Crack Willow may not be the ideal fuel of a log burning stove, we expected always to have a free plentiful enough supply from that found within our grounds brought down by storms.
Finding a company prepared to install a stove in a log cabin proved surprisingly difficult. The first few approached simply said it was not something they did. Eventually, we found one who would, Heatcraft of Aylsham. The stove was ordered early in the year, but there were all manner of delays in its arrival, some of them seemed related to obtaining parts during the recovery of companies after the lockdowns brought about by COVID-19. Eventually the day arrived for the stove to be installed.

The first parts to be fitted were the heatshields on the floor and wall of the cabin. these were in place by 10:51 when this photo was taken.
By 14:32 the stove itself and lower part of the chimney were in place.
Here is proof, if it was needed, that the ceiling of the cabin is well insulated. The bracket to take the upper part of the chimney is in place and you can see the lip at the top of the lower chimney that is to take the upper insulated part.
What I did not do was take any photos of the work that took place outside. In fact the chimney reaches some 4ft above the ridge of the roof. However, it very much depends on the angle you view it from as to whether it is visible as from almost every angle it is either below the surrounding trees tree line or behind the row of conifers along the line of the boundary fence.

This is the picture I took at 12:23 the day after installation. You can make out the thicker insulated section of chimney. Also obvious is that we chose a stove capable of being used as a cooker, with a lift up lid on which pans can be heated. You may also notice a rack inside the fire box. This allows you to grill steaks or burger, cook pizzas, or even a casserole.
